Wayne Sawyer

Wayne Sawyer is Emeritus Professor in the School of Education at Western Sydney University, where he taught for 25 years. Before joining WSU, Wayne was a secondary school Head of English. He is a past Chair of the NSW Board of Studies English Curriculum Committee and an Honorary Life Member of both the NSW English Teachers Association and the Australian Association for the Teaching of English. His research interests are in secondary education, in particular secondary English teaching, literacy policy and effective teaching - the latter mainly in low SES contexts. He also has particular interest and experience in advancing practitioner research.  He has completed a number of research projects for bodies such as the Australian Research Council, the NSW Department of Education, the Commonwealth Department of Education, the NSW Board of Studies and the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority.  Wayne is the author/editor of over 30 books on education for audiences of teachers and academics. His most recent books have included the co-authored Engaging schooling : Developing exemplary education for students in poverty and  Exemplary teachers of students in poverty and the co-edited The future of English teaching worldwide and Resisting educational inequality - all for Routledge. He is currently completing co-edited and co-authored books on teacher education in English and on literary knowledge and literary education.
